ComIC Workshops
ComIC Workshop July 2018
The first workshop within the scope of the ComIC project is supported by the DAAD. The goal is to teach young researcher from Egypt fundamental research skills and present ideas of potential research topics.
Program
Monday - 23.07.2018 - Room: SH 403
10:00 | Prof. Dr. Stefan Schneegass (University of Duisburg-Essen) Welcome & Introduction |
10:30 | Prof. Dr. Fabian Beck (University of Duisburg-Essen) A Brief Introduction to Information Visualization Information visualization makes abstract and complex data understandable for humans. This talk introduces fundamental visualization techniques and covers the visualization of multivariate data, one of the most common data representations. We discuss available visualization options and, in a hands-on session, implement examples using the programming language R. |

Tuesday - 24.07.2018 - Room: SH 403
10:00 | Dr. Max Pfeiffer and Samuel Navas Medrano (WWU Münster) Embodied Interfaces through Electrical Muscle Stimulation In the last decades, user interfaces moved closer to the body. The personal computer moved from the desk to the backpack, the telephone from the table to our pockets, and the fitness coach from the gym to the wrist. While this wave of computing already hit the mass market, this session will introduce the next wave of user interface, namely embodied interfaces. In particular, this interactive session will outline how electrical muscle stimulation can be used as a novel type of user interface. We will discuss application scenarios, usage challenges, and ethical implications. |
